High society delighted in elegance. The runways are now promoting it again.
Ivory satin is also being featured in glamorous winter weddings as well.
This particular fitted wedding gown is top of the line. It was made for the bride at Filene's Bride's Room. Filene's was a pioneer in branch-store development. In its heyday, the store hosted appearances by fashion designers, such as Christian Dior, Pierre Cardin, and Pauline Trigère, in addition to celebrities, like Zsa Zsa Gabor and Gloria Swanson. A victim of retail consolidation, the flagship downtown Boston store closed its doors in 2006.
There are no odors. From the collar seam in back to the waist is 18". From the waist to the hem in front is 40", in back because of the train, it is 68". From the shoulder seam to the cuff, the sleeve measures 24". The inner arm hole to the cuff, it is 16". From the mid armhole across the back to the other armhole, it is 12". In front, armhole to armhole is 30".
There is a suggestion of a waist along the lines of a princess style, but it is not the extreme styling of the 50s. This was purchased in 1944 at the Boston store.
This appears to be a small to medium size. The bride weighed 125 pounds and was 5' 4'' tall. It would probably fit from a size 8 to a size 10. Please read the measurements. We are not experts at sizing.
We purchased the garment from a home.
We think this could be expertly hemmed and made into a stunning cocktail dress too. There is no zipper. The closure is by covered bridal buttons down the back and on the sleeves. They are classic and are so attractive. There is a sweetheart neckline and stitched trim down the front.
This gown is in excellent condition. It is clean, soft and supple. There are no tears, but there are a few spots near the hem. They could be cut off and the hem shortened by a few of inches. Dry cleaning might also remove them. We have not done that. You may buy with confidence. We apologize for the wrinkles in the pictures. We have not ironed it.
