This is a Ship in a Bottle of the sailing training ship, Gorch Fock. It has a brass plaque on the base and the ship itself has the name on the bow. Sealing wax holds the string in place over the opening.
On the bottom of the stand, there is a paper which when translated from the German which says:
Gorch Fock 1958
The sailing training ship which was launched on Augus 23, 1958, was built at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg. The barque has a total length of 89.35 m and a sail area of 2037 m2. The maximum speed under sail is 16 knots. It is named after the German writer Hans Kinau, who wrote stories about the sea under the pseudonym Gorch Fock.
Measurements: It is 8" long, 4" high and almost 2" wide.
