Royal Chelsea Bone China of England crafted this elegant teacup and saucer between 1952 - 1961. This is pattern number 333A.
The gold trim highlights the thistle teacup design. This is totally hand painted.
What is the significance of a thistle for Scotland? In 1249, invaders came ashore under the cover of darkness. In might have worked, if one of the soldiers had not stepped upon the native growing thistle. When he shrieked in pain, the Scots became aware of the location of the army. The hostile soldiers lost the battle.
The order of the Garter was created by King James and used the thistle as part of the badge for the knights.
